December 31, 2008

Not a lot going on on the last day of 2008. I wasn't sure if the mail would come today, but it did and there was nothing good in it. Boo.

I only sent out one postcard today, too:
This one's going to a family in France. I seriously thought that that was a cucumber but the back of the card says it's a watermelon. What do you think?

Anyway...Happy New Years Eve, Snail Mail Addicts. Be safe. Please don't drink and write. ;D

December 30, 2008

Okay, since I am sending out seven postcards today, I'm not going to scan them all. Instead, y'all can see a little of what I put on the other sides.

Why so many? Well...I sent one to someone off sendsomething.net, then one of my Postcrossing cards made it to Finland, then we got assigned swap partners for one of my first swaps on Swap-Bot. The swap was for five postcards to be sent to five different people. It was fun to stay up even later than normal and do five cards for something completely new.

This first one was just a cute something that was inspired by my swap partner's username...

Next, two attempts to recreate something awesome I did for someone on sendsomething.net a few weeks ago...but nither one is as cool as the original.

I hope you guys like them. I will probably be posting more in the future.

That's all for today. Nothing in the mail but adverts. :(

December 29, 2008

I am so excited! I got a nice letter from the awesome Ilona today and already sent off a reply. (Sorry it got a little crumpled, I made the mistake of taking the puppy to the mailbox with me to drop them off. Won't be doing that again!) Worse than accidentally crumpling the letter, though is that I currently do not have any pretty stationary! I felt kinda bad about that, considering an awesome letter that was it's own envelope thingy:
Now I am on the hunt for stationary. I used to have a bunch...but stuff is missing from several moves within a two year period.

I also got a really pretty Postcrossing card from Wilhelm in Germany:

There was a return address on the back, so of course I had to send one back:
That's one of the cards my friend, Liv sent me from her most recent trip to San Francisco. It's also pretty and had a lot of similar colors, so I thought it would be a good one to send back.

That's all for today, unless you want to hear about bills. See you later, fellow snail mail addicts.

December 27, 2008

Hi guys, it's been a while. Between bad weather and mail stoppage, the holidays and everything else going on, it's been a little hard to post on here. Luckily, not much was missed...since I only got one postcard:
It's a Postcrossing card from Trevor of CA. Monsters Inc. concept art. Pretty cool. I miss California and Disneyland so much! My annual pass is still valid I could go...

And I sent off a few cards without scanning...but eventually the scans are going to repeat, anyway. Like today, I sent off a postcard to my mother-in-law that y'all have already seen. It's the Fort Lewis Gate card. She got a postcard because she sent me a bunch of postcards and stamps for Christmas! :D :D :D She also sent me a Wii game I've been wanting (Rayman Raving Rabbids 2), which i awesome as well....but I never thought I'd be so happy to get mailing stuff. I wanted to draw something nifty on her card, but I wrote too much.

So, today I sent off two of the cards she sent me:
First one was a Postcrossing card (one of my cards finally got to where it was going!) to Amanda of VA:
She asked for non-winning lotto tickets, but I didn't have any of those, so I taped a fortune cookie fortune with lotto numbers on the back. "A financial venture may turn a profit sooner than expected. 6 20 21 22 43 . 15"

The second one went to Mandy from NY:
I found her on Sendsomething.net.

That's all I've got for now. I'm going to go check the mail. Crossing my fingers for more fun mail!

Woah.

Well weather, I am impressed. You kept my mail man from coming. I went out to check anyway...through through the foot of snow you left on the ground.

I am starting to get the hang of doing mail art type things. Bear with me if you got/get something kinda weird. I think it's weird I'm having problems with this considering I'm normally fairly creative.

Speaking of creative, I am looking to pretty up my blogs! One thing I need is a quarter sized air mail envelope. I used to use them all the time and now I can't find one at all! If anyone has one they would be willing to send me, email me: Mutnik@gmail.com

That's all my mail news for now. Hopefully the mail man will be back tomorrow with something nice in my post box!

December 19, 2008

Not much going on in my snail mail world today. One of my Postcrossing cards got to where it was going, so I mailed off this one to Jodie in WI:

That's the main gate here, constructed in 1917 and donated by the workers who originally built Camp Lewis. Did y'all know I live on the only military instillation that was actually donated by the people of the area to the army?

Other than that, I'm looking for a letter writing campaign for A Passion For Letters' 10 Day Challenge. Any suggestions?

December 18, 2008

Today has been a big day for me and this little blog! First, I'm truly honored, and somewhat surprised to tell you that Snail Mail Addict has received A Passion For Letters Message In A Bottle Award!!

Message in a Bottle Award from passionforletters.com

Less than a month old and my youngest blog has an award! ^.^ The award will be in the side bar, over there. --->

Next, I found out about another mail site that I'm sure will be adding to my mail adventures: http://www.sendsomething.net (Thanks to RR) You just send random somethings to random people. It looks pretty neat. So far, I am only sending letters, but when I start going to the post office regularly with care packages for my husband and friends in Iraq, I will start sending other random things as well...mixed CDs...a book, etc. I'm looking forward to getting random stuff, it sounds like a lot of fun.

Also, one of my Postcrossing cards finally made it to Turkey, freeing me up to send out a postcard to Janina from Germany:
She said she was interested in city views only. Well, I don't live in a city, I live on a military instillation. This is as close to a city view as you get.

Speaking of post cards. My husband called from overseas and said he'd gotten me some post cards from Baltimore and Kuwait! Awesomeness!

And finally, it is still snowing pretty bad here. The mail still came ( I got a really cute Christmas card signed by a bunch of my friends back home in San Pedro!...still no postcards.) but my Amazon shipment via UPS was delayed due to weather. I thought that was kind of odd, seeing as the mail man made it.

That's it for tonight. Hopefully will have more snail mail action to report tomorrow!

December 17, 2008

Today was a definite snow day. Being from Southern California originally, this was my first real experience with snow. o.o The Commissary was closed by the time I got there today, so after I got home I kept an eye out for the mail, since I had to be sure they would deliver no matter what.

Somewhat to my surprise, he did show up. Unfortunately, there were no postcards. (I did get a Christmas present, though! ^.^)

I was lurking about in the forums, though and found some blogs with addresses and decided to send off some cards:
This one went to Julie of PA. Wee, tank!

The other one will be going a lot further, all the way to SL in Malaysia:

That's it for today. Maybe something fun will come tomorrow!

December 16, 2008

I know I've been MIA for a few days. I've been kinda busy helping my husband get ready to leave. All you missed were a few outgoing postcards anyway.

On Friday, December 12, I got this cute Moose Postcrossing card from Laura of Canada:
I love this guy! Happy Birthday, Canada....even though I'm sure I'm late.

Then I sent out one or two postcards that just didn't make it to the scanner...sorries.

Today, I got two post cards in the mail! The first one was from Mark in Texas:
Look at how many times Texas has changed hands! o.o Mr. Mark had a return address on the writing side, so I went ahead and sent off this one:
I love this image! I think is pretty neat looking. It's a before and after of Mt. St. Helens' eruption in 1980.

And the last thing I have for you today is the other postcard that came in the mail:
It's a mutiview of Wuppertal, Germany sent by Bulent. Looks pretty neat. It says on the other side that the city is famos for their unique suspention railway and the 469 stairs. o.O Maybe one day I'll be able to visit and climb all the stairs!

December 9, 2008

One of my Postcrossing cards was finally received in Finland today. Actually, it only took nine days to get there...which is pretty good for Finland.

That means I get to send a postcard! I scanned this one and sent it off to...well, Finland. There seem to be a lot of Finnish users on Postcrossing.

She mentioned she likes funny postcards. I hope this one makes her smile.

Later, another Postcrossing card made it to KS. Finally. It took 11 days, which was waaaay too long...but oh well. I can send another card now!

That frees me up to send out another card. This one will be headed to Spokane, WA.

It's not a pretty card, but I figured since it was going such a short distance, and they asked to see postcards of where we lived, it would be good. I walk through that parking lot almost every day...and I'm thinking about walking Peach around the airfield.

No postcards came for me today. Hopefully we'll see something tomorrow!

December 8, 2008

Today I got a cute bear postcrossing postcard from Heli of Finland!

More snow! But it sure looks like those bears are having fun. You know, I never hear too much about Finland. I wonder what it's like?

That's all I've got for today. Hopefully things will pick up mail-wise soon.

In The Beginning...

Hi, Y'all.

I'm Wolfidy, a 23 year old army wife currently living in fort Lewis, WA. I have always enjoyed snail mail and recently joined http://www.postcrossing.com ...only to become quickly obsessed with postcards!

So here we go creating yet another blog to document all the postcards that come through...not just the postcrossing ones.

Anyway, without further ado...

The first one I received was from Jenny in OR:
That's Mt. Hood on there. Pretty, huh? Maybe we can drive down there sometime and go camping... Despite me being unsure about camping, hubby insists that it's fun and says I'm going to go next summer whether I want to or not. (This was a postcrossing card!)

Several days later, I got post card from my friend Kim, who had recently gone on a trip to Las Vegas:
I've never gone to Las Vegas. It looks like fun. Hopefully I can swing a weekend with my friends sometime later next year. :D

The next card came about because of my snooping around Postcrossing. I was randomly clicking through user profiles and found a lady who's husband just left for basic training. That was really a hard time for me, so when I found she openly posted her address on her blog, I decided to send her a postcard. About a week later, I got one in reply:
That's Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah as rendered by William Carr. That looks like a lot of snow! And I thought it was cold here in Washington! Pretty, though. Maybe one day I will visit when there's not so much snow.

And the most recent postcard I have received, I got it just yesterday is a postcrossing card from a different Jenny in CO:
It got a little beat up in the mail, but it's still pretty cool. It's views of Mesa County, CO. The back of the postcard says the top left is Mt. Garfield and Canada Geese, the top right is Rattlesnake Canyon, Akiti Arch, the bottom left is Independence Monument, and the bottom right is Grand Mesa. Definately looks like it would be a cool place to check out. Hubby has family in CO so who knows, maybe someday we can go.

That's all I've got for now. Hope to be back soon with more to share! ^.^
